Millennium, finished season two
Last night I watched the end of season two of Millennium. Its kinda hard to say anything about it without throwing in some spoilers about what happens; so be fore-warned about that. It seems like the show is more and more following the path of the X-Files. We’ve now started unveiling a big conspiracy that could possible lead to the end of the human race. The difference between Millennium and the X-Files is that Millennium doesn’t involve aliens.
Later in the season Frank Black shows that he is highly suspicious of the Millennium group. Their rules and the way they treat members seems very much like a cult. He goes so far as to discreetly begin investigating them and their intentions. At the end of the season, and I’m referring to the last two episodes, he uncovers information about a disease that can kill people within minutes of infection and is highly contagious. Basically a plague capable of wiping out mankind. Furthermore the Millennium group has a potential vaccination against this plague, allegedly only enough for group members, not even their families, just members.
This sounds a little too familiar to the X-Files plot. You’ve got a secret group, not associated with any government, working to create a vaccine for a disease that might wipe out mankind. You’ve also got a single person seeking to uncover that group’s secrets. Not only that, but both shows are based on crime investigations with a supernatural slant to them.
Millennium had been taking a fairly religious angle for most of the second season. At the end its lost that focus, the disease in question is a man made virus, along with its vaccine. I guess the Good versus Evil aspect still applies, but we’re given a lot of not so subtle hints that the Millennium group isn’t on the side of Good.
The way the season ended, and I’m trying not to give all of that away, its obviously going to switch away from the crime investigations. The story telling is still done well, and while I’m not a huge fan of conspiracies I’m still enjoying the show. Its got me hooked enough that I’ll need to catch a few episodes of season three to find out what happens next.
